What is Juneteenth?Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, is an annual holiday celebrated on June 19th. It marks the day in 1865 when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, effectively ending slavery in the United States. Juneteenth serves as a powerful reminder of the struggles, resilience, and triumphs of Black Americans throughout history.
