Here at the Urban Grape, our motto has always been to  drink progressively as we strive to draw attention to lesser-known and minority winemakers. To take a step further, we started our featured producer of the month campaign. This November, we are featuring the Brown Estate!

Brown Estate Vineyards is the first Black-Owned estate winery in Napa Valley. This estate is run by siblings Coral, Deneen, and David Brown on the farm their parents purchased in the 80s, and by 1995 they decided to try their hand at winemaking themselves! Brown Estate was officially established a year later when they harvested what would become their first bottling of Brown Zinfandel - their flagship wine.

You can shop their collection  here to support their efforts!

Beyond the Brown Estate, the family has also created a second-label offspring – House of Brown. This label not only attracted their dedicated and diverse consumer base but also added a vibrant and dynamic culture to their overall wine experience. These selections are described as “easy drinking anytime-anywhere wines, always in season.” They are produced by women of color, certified sustainable, and vegan-friendly!

Sharing similarities to our own Urban Grape origins, House of Brown is a Black-owned and women-led business, and we are happy to shine the spotlight on their efforts this month. See below for selections of House of Brown that we both carry and highly recommend!

Chardonnay: Crisp, clean & luscious

Dry Rosé: Delicate yet vibrant

Red Blend: Fresh, juicy & chillable
